Nicole (Satyadi) Hough was born in Los Angeles, California. She graduated from UC Berkeley’s Undergraduate Haas School of Business and held internship positions in finance and marketing. She later moved to New York City to study fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology with a specialty in knitwear. Through machine and hand knitting, textile development, and dyeing experiments, Nicole cultivated her signature minimalistic aesthetic of high-quality, streamlined separates in neutral colors and natural fibers.

While working in the industry as a sweater designer, Nicole continued to make clothes in her free time, creating samples that would culminate with the Fall 2024 launch of her label. With Berkat Ibuku, Nicole aims to reforge a connection with the individuals who create our goods through their distinctive vision and labor. All garments are produced in small batches in her LA studio, or in Indonesia and Nepal by small, family-run businesses.

Berkat Ibuku translates to “my mother’s blessing” in Indonesian - in recognition and appreciation of family, community, and homeland.
